About

Hi, my name is Jason Wilson, my wife Jolyna and daughter Tessa would like to personally thank you for visiting our website. We sincerely hope you enjoy your time here.

I am a cartographer by trade and education with an interest in capturing human impacts in Colorado via photography. I was transplanted from Montana to Colorado in 1986 and have enjoyed all that Colorado has to offer from skiing, hiking, camping and biking. I became inspired to capture the human impact on the landscape throughout my travels in Colorado and the greater Rocky Mountain West.

The history and culture of a locale is extremely interesting to me and important enough to preserve. The varied climate and faces of Colorado is inspiring beyond measure. My wife Jolyna and I love to travel to different areas of Colorado and record history in a new way, with digital photography that is cataloged through mapping and geography.

aColoradoView is our template and opportunity to share our life experiences. We primarily focus on the study of locales in Colorado through the lens of a digital SLR camera. We have built an interactive map-driven view of the state to visually explore the diverse geography Colorado has to offer. Through this map-driven approach it is our intent to explore the wonderful history and culture in relation to the physical make up of this great state. Based primarily on geology we have broken the state into 3 physiographic regions (Prairie, Peak, & Plateau) and we'll refer to them often when discussing the locations of the photographs on this site.

We have further divided the state into sub-regions to help organize our efforts and experiences. These sub-regions were arbitrarily created using various geographic features such as rivers, roads, highways, and mountian ridges. Each image is cataloged and arranged by its location of physiographic region, sub-region and nearest locale according to our map of Colorado.

Be aware, as we occasionally travel outside this grand state and end up in such appalling locations as Oregon, Wyoming, or Montana. Please forgive us, but if we find it interesting enough, a map, photograph, or travelogue might appear here as well... These will be highlighted with the OT: Off Topic label, and/or will reside in the OT:Off Topic section.

It is our hope over time to add not only photographs and further map detail, but travelogues and detailed write-ups for many of the special locales we visit. Please check back often as this website is intended to be updated over the course of our entire time living and travelling throughout Colorado.

Also, on occasion we will capture a moment or place that we find truly captivating. These can be found on our Prints section for purchase on professional grade archival paper and mounted on the highest quality MDF board.

We dare not forget the rest of our staff, Kenna & Ruby!

Thanks for visiting and please contact us if you have any questions or comments.
